It was once a small city, just serving as the hub to local farmers, but in recent years the population has boomed. It all started when one of the noble houses decided to build there. The head of House Sunbreaker, Elric, said that it was because he wanted a summer home, but the rumors, which often contain a bit of truth, said that he lost favor with some of the more powerful nobles in the capital, so he moved to the country to lick his wounds and plot his next move. Lord Elric began to cultivate the city, and eventually it grew to a sizable proportion, though not big enough to have it’s own mayor. The city particularly became famous as a hub for trading for farmers and for metal workers who have found the land to rich in ores. Like any trading city, Nightvale has attracted all sorts of people, though usually not the nicest kind. Almost all races are represented in Nightvale, though human is the most well represented. As would be expected, there is a large presence of the thieves and assassins guilds. There are other independent thieving groups as well. Lord Elric’s policy on these groups is that if they don’t cause too much trouble or get the city in an uproar, and if they will pay his secret police the not so secret “tax” every month, they are free to operate. Who knows, having connections with these groups might come in handy for a power play in the future.
